Dear Community Members,

We recently held a well-attended webinar on Jaspersoft 6.2.1, the latest version available for Clarity. And this week we’ll continue to carry the Jaspersoft flag, with several Q&As below.

You can also find a list of free training opportunities and upcoming events at the bottom of this post for everything from Meisterplan Portfolio Management (a cool Clarity add on) to free Quick Reference Cards for Clarity as we countdown to CA World . . . and lots more. Check it out by scrolling to the bottom.

And now to our weekly Learn with Rego Q&A!

1. Why am I getting a XOG Error with the command prompt?

2. Why aren’t the OBS edit rights working?

3. We’re having a problem with our scheduled Jasper reports not sending to email.

4. How do we solve a Jaspersoft Server Issue?

5. Can you help with this Ad Hoc Reporting error?

Please feel free to read our answers below and comment on any alternative answers you’ve found within the original Clarity Community conversation here.

We love your input (always).

1.

I’m trying to XOG in a portlet, and while other XOGs are working, like the Object Read and Custom Attribute Updates, it’s not working via the command prompt route. See the code being used for the XOG Client portlet here.

Answer

Check your files for this at the top: <?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>

If it exists, remove it, and you should be good to go.

2.

After an upgrade to 14.4, a resource can’t edit the Department OBS. I assumed it was a financial editing rights issue, so I granted those rights and even made sure the department and location attributes were available, but he still gets a security error. Any ideas?

Answer

This is a known defect being investigated by Broadcom.

3.

Our Clarity notifications are sending but scheduled reports are not. App and Report servers are on separate boxes. Is there any documentation on email config/setup for Jasper server directly that we might have missed? We’re On Premise.

Answer

Try updating the config file in the reportservice folder, js.quartz.properties as follows:

report.scheduler.mail.sender.host=

report.scheduler.mail.sender.username=

report.scheduler.mail.sender.password=

report.scheduler.mail.sender.from=

report.scheduler.mail.sender.protocol=smtp

report.scheduler.mail.sender.port=25

 4.

I’m getting the dreaded Status 404 Resource is Not Available trying to get into a TEST platform on the Jaspersoft Server. Does anyone have any documentation as to where the logs are, or what to look at first when this is encountered?

Answer

The jasperserver.log or jasperserver.log.1 are located in the $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/reportservice/WEB-INF/logs folder.

Ensure that the Tomcat is up and running, and you can connect to http://<url>:8080 without /reportservice at the end of the address.

5.

I’m seeing a weird error in Jasper, and I can’t get the expression to take. It validates fine, but then throws a generic error. Here’s the expression:

IF(“Task Baseline Start” < Today(0) and “Task Status” == ‘Not Started’, ‘Y’, IF(“Task Baseline Start” == null, ‘R’, ‘G’))

I know if I take the “Today” piece out it works with no error. Should I be using a different function instead of nested IF?

Answer

I’m happy to say this has been solved! Here’s the code that captures “Today” . . .

IF(“Baseline Start” == null or “Baseline Finish” == null, ‘R’, IF(ElapsedDays(“Baseline Finish”, Today()) < 0 and “Stage” == ‘Execute’, ‘Y’, ‘G’))

It’s a work around, but it works for what we need. ElapsedDays seems to convert “Today()” to something Ad Hoc likes.

Case closed!
