RegoUniversity Fun in Washington D.C.

Thinking about joining us in our nation’s capital this year? If you’re looking for some RegoUniversity fun, Washington D.C. will not disappoint.

Here, the cherry blossoms are starting to bloom along the tidal basin. Whether you’re looking for an evening out at One Loudoun (transportation provided Tuesday night) or extending your stay and visiting the capital city, there are wonderful options listed below, as well as things to do around Lansdowne Resort and Spa. 

Tour the National Mall

The National Mall is a great place to start. I like to walk it from end to end—from the U.S. Capitol all the way to the Lincoln Memorial. Along the way you can hit various monuments and stop in a museum or two. It’s impossible to hit them all. And don’t pack a lunch—cuisine of all types is available from hundreds of food trucks. 

Of course you’ll see more if you get a tour bus ticket and jump on and off at will. Try Old Town Trolley tours, Big Bus Tours, or CitySights DC. If you like to bike, you can always grab a bike from one of the many Capital Bike Shares, or you can get really adventurous, embrace the IT-persona, and enjoy a Segway tour.

I’ve lived here almost thirty years. Here are some routes you can do in a day:

A little culture and a little monuments:

Start at Air & Space, and then head to the National Gallery of Art. Grab your lunch at a food truck or at the Sculpture Garden’s Pavilion Cafe. After lunch, walk to the White House, then stroll south to the Washington Monument, hit the tidal basin for cherry blossoms, and end your day on Jefferson.

Perhaps this is more your speed:

Start at Natural History. Then hit American History. Have lunch at one of the many food trucks. After lunch, check out the visitor center at the Capitol. Then take a quick tour of the U.S. Botanical Gardens. . . . too bad the Corpse plant isn’t blooming. ;)

Below are lists of the top 10 museums, art galleries, and monuments. And don’t forget the White House, Arlington National Cemetery (metro blue line), the Pentagon (metro yellow and blue lines), and the Old Post Office, which used to be the tallest point in D.C. until the Washington Monument was built. (Fun fact: no building can be taller than the Washington Monument, and it’s closed until 2019.)
