Banner Health resolves a variety of challenges by implementing an Application Portfolio Management system.

Company: Banner Health
Industry: Healthcare
ServiceNow Use: Application Portfolio Management

The Challenge:

Due to the lack of an Application Portfolio Management system, Banner Health was facing a variety of potential risks to their organization. Among these risks were a limited visibility into application redundancy, the inability to inventory what application functions were owned and used, and the lack of a solution to remediate ongoing technology risk.

The Solution:

To help Banner Health tackles these challenges, Rego recommended a multi-sprint implementation. The first step was to develop a configuration management database (CMDB) story and architecture, including the audit of roles and licenses for Application Portfolio Management (APM). Then, Rego worked together with Banner to configure Business Application and Data Security and build an approval creation workflow. Rego also built Business Application Indicators and Portfolios coupled with deployment tracking for applications, as well as custom project and portfolio management (PPM) and IT financial management (ITFM) workflow configurations for an updated APM model. Lastly, customized training materials were developed and delivered to ensure ongoing success.

The Results:

From the first release of their Application Portfolio Management system, Banner Health gained the following capabilities as a result of their inflight engagement with Rego:

  • A single repository for Business Applications
  • The ability to classify applications according to both functionality as well as alignment of business capabilities with Banner’s strategic vision
  • Establish ownership – and track lifecycle – of applications
  • Assess and remediate technical risk
  • Plugging business applications into the platform for visibility into usage, incident, problem and change, discovery, and software and hardware asset management
