O-I is the world’s leading glass container manufacturer and has been crafting sustainable, high quality glass packaging for many of the world’s best-known food, beverage, and cosmetic brands for more than a century.

The challenge: supporting new product development

The glass containers produced by O-I are often intrinsically linked to the brand of its customers. Developing and delivering new and distinctive glass products is therefore vital to O-I’s growth and customer satisfaction levels.

The company’s new product development division in Europe manages approximately 300 projects each year. Its teams were using a legacy system, but its limitations were starting to hamper performance. As the solution was no longer supported, it was also difficult to resolve issues, which affected the productivity of project managers and other users.

The solution: a modern and scalable PPM solution

O-I decided to replace its legacy tool with a modern, scalable software-as-a-service solution that would support new product development in Europe for the next 10 years.

The manufacturer turned to Rego Consulting to assist with the deployment of Clarity in 2013, with the consultancy also helping to later upgrade the system to Clarity.

The system was initially used by approximately 200 users across 10 European countries to manage 750 new project requests each year, 300 projects, and circa 2,000 other work items outside new project development.

Following the upgrade, Clarity PPM was extended to O-I’s global IT department, further expanding the number of users and projects.

Since then, Rego has continued to support O-I in maturing its CA PPM capabilities to include project intake/idea, collaboration, resource, finance, project, and portfolio management. Scenario planning has also been introduced for both IT and new product development teams at a global level.
